Welcome to my blog, where I cover tech, games and whatever else that’s interesting in the universe like vinyl, fusion jazz and side projects.
This website is inspired by the web of the late 90s - no, not just the style of the site - but also harking back to a time when people would set up websites (probably on Geocities or similar) and write about anything that interested them. Most of the websites looked terrible (my first few sites were no exception) but it was so liberating having your own site. So here’s my modern-day version of that late 90s vibe.
Not sure where to start? Here are some blogs to get you started:
There’s also a 🍊 Garden Diary to check out. It’s sometimes updated as the seasons change.

This blog is super-condensed but showcases some pretty spectacularly terrible 90’s website design. I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking some of those early sites were pretty amusing!
I’ve been interested in the web for a long time. When I say, web, I mean the Tim Berners-Lee web, which basically revolves around HTML, URIs and HTTP and provides a way to access information from all around the world without having to log onto different computers to get the information.

The year was 2016, I had been presenting Fusion Delusion on Eastside Radio for 5 years and it was time to try something new. I lodged an “Application for New Programme” and wanted to take my volunteer community radio hosting gig in a different direction and maybe playing out so many fusion jazz tracks had got to my head.
So here’s a bit of the brief I submitted to Eastside Radio at the time. Sadly, it wasn’t successful in getting up: the programming committee didn’t warm to the idea as much as I had hoped. I wasn’t alone, however, as a fellow volunteer helped me put together an air check and write up the proposal.

Green Book
United States (2018)
8.2 on IMDB
I had never heard of Green Book before and that surprised me. Normally, I like to get into all of the music-related movies and even more so, the historical music movies. But this one? Slipped my feed, obviously.
Green Book is a movie about a working class white Italian-American bouncer who turns into a national Uber driver for an African-American classical musician, Dr. Don Shirley. They go on a tour through the American South in the 1960s despite many racial slurs and almost tour-ending moments.

On Happiness Road
Taiwan (2017)
7.1 on IMDB
I really hooked into the animations this trip, to the point where half the movies that I watched were animation. I am a fan of animations of course, but I haven’t had the time to watch much lately. On Happiness Road was a deeply refreshing movie, in part because of the storyline being so fascinating but also because it’s simply a Taiwanese animation. I haven’t come across anything similar to compare with, but since I was watching the movie onboard a Taiwanese airline so I think that totally makes sense.

Intimate Strangers
Korea (2018)
6.8 on IMDB
I had seen promos for this during 2018 and it had even come out at our local cinema, but as of writing, I still hadn’t managed to get around to seeing Intimate Strangers in a real theatre. It was probably best that I didn’t, because despite the amusing hook, I didn’t enjoy this movie nearly as much as I thought I would. Let me explain.
