Blogs Posts by Nick McHardy

Welcome to my blog, where I cover tech, games and whatever else that’s interesting in the universe like vinyl, fusion jazz and side projects.

This website is inspired by the web of the late 90s - no, not just the style of the site - but also harking back to a time when people would set up websites (probably on Geocities or similar) and write about anything that interested them. Most of the websites looked terrible (my first few sites were no exception) but it was so liberating having your own site. So here’s my modern-day version of that late 90s vibe.

Counterfeit Australian Money - Fake $10 Note

📅 Posted 2014-07-26 (2 minute read)

Well today was an interesting day. When Boyter, Greg & myself went out for lunch today, everything seemed normal… until Greg decided to buy some hot chips for lunch. He tries to pay for the chips with a $10 note and they don’t accept it. Weird we thought, so I had to lend him $3 in coins hoping they would accept that. Turns out the $10 note was fake! Now I always thought the Aussie dollar was pretty hard to copy, and I suppose it is, but this proves it’s seriously possible.

The 'noindex' Day

📅 Posted 2014-07-22 (4 minute read)

This is the story of how one check box caused 4 weeks of heartache and suffering. The day started well, I was moving house and hired a ute to pick up the final few things from my apartment. I’d already done most of the heavy lifting with the help of my family and a truck with a tailgate lift on another day. But today was simply a few last minute things and a day off work to complete the job.

Because you totally shouldn’t. What I AM saying is what about the little old radio?

What's the story, morning radio?

📅 Posted 2014-07-06 (3 minute read)

So why is Digital Radio in cars so behind the times? I mean, if you have a look for digital radios there are plenty of nice units for sale for use in your house. Little speakers, pull up the antenna, cute lunch box size. Perfect for that Sunday morning radio time with the paper and a croissant. But where are the radios in the car? Today’s discussion is thus: if Digital Radio really wants to be successful in Australia, why are the choices of Digital Radios for cars so limited?

The Lutecia Story

📅 Posted 2012-07-02 (5 minute read)

(Apologies for the long read - pics are at the bottom!) Well, for a while now I’ve been fancying to “JDM” my Clio by swapping the rear badge for a “Lutecia” badge. You see, the Clio is sold in Japan as a “Lutecia” because Honda own the copyright to the name “Clio” in Japan. I do quite like the debadged look on an RS, but since the Clio II has 2 holes being the “Clio” badge, I didn’t fancy completely removing this one.
